Tips On How Do I Clean My Wetsuit

By Arthur Mitchell

A wetsuit is a kind of a garment that is used majorly in water. It is made from neoprene which gives it flexibility. This suit offers thermal insulation and buoyancy to the wearer. They do not allow any heat to escape hence ensuring warmth of the individual wearing it. These garments are meant for sporting and also deep sea diving. They are made for different purposes thus different ones offer different warmth levels. These garments require a high level of maintenance in terms of cleaning hence on how do i clean my wetsuit one should consider the important factors explained below.

Rinsing of the garment is the first thing to be done when one has finished the diving of the day. The rinsing must be done using fresh water immediately without long delay. In case there is a rinse tank mostly found where dive operators are, rinse it there. This will help neoprene used in making them not to lose their flexibility thus retain its flexibility for long. Those that are not rinsed get bad smell thence to ensure it remains smell friendly, it must be rinsed.

Proper rinsing will usher in the next step of cleaning. Get clean warm water and immerse the suit fully in. Wait for fifteen minutes to come to completion while it is fully immersed. In completion of the fifteen minutes, remove the suit. Occasional cleaning using a wetsuit shampoo or baby shampoo can be applied.

These suits have specific kinds of hangers which should be used. There are ones meant specifically for these kind of garments. In case they are not available, one can also use a plastic hanger but at no time should thin wire hangers be used. They have an effect of degrading the quality of neoprene in the garment. Quality degradation means the garment will be rendered useless.

It should never be placed under direct sunlight to dry at any instance. Direct sunlight will make the neoprene to crack. Thin wire hangers will degrade the quality of neoprene.

Another thing to consider is the importance to inspect the wetsuit before storing it. Check if it has any visible tears or rips. It is good to fix them when they are still small rather than waiting till they form big patches.

Storage of any material or property can either prolong the life of it or greatly decrease it. After all these processes, one is supposed to store it flat or hang it. Never should it be folded or shoved in a drawer. When the suit is folded, it will crease and lose some insulating properties it contains reducing its effectiveness at large.

These kinds of garments are a bit expensive as compared to other types. Depending also on their purpose, they need to be used well and maintained properly so that at one point one can use them again. These instructions on how to wash, maintain and store them should be adhered to properly. If they are followed as expected then one can be sure of maximum durability. The quality will be maintained and also there will be no smell issues.
