The Importance Of The Eternal Salvation Doctrine

By Andrew Jones

There is a special thread that runs throughout the Bible from beginning to end. That thread is the eternal salvation doctrine, and it is the most important subject found in the Bible. Because of this doctrine, everyone can know what their final destination will be at the end of this life.

This doctrine begins in the book of Genesis. Adam and Eve were created and placed in the beautiful Garden of Eden. God told them they could eat of all of the fruit in the garden except for one tree. It sounds so easy. After all, they only had one rule to obey.

As Eve was alone in the garden one day, the devil approached her and encouraged her to eat the fruit of the tree that God had strictly forbidden them to eat. He used a number of lies to convince Eve that it would not hurt a thing if she disobeyed God. After all, the fruit looked delicious. Eve succumbed, ate the fruit and disobeyed God. She not only ate it herself, but she convinced Adam to eat it, too. Little did they know the drastic change that would take place when sin entered the world.

From that time on every baby that is born into the world is born a sinner. God has made it very clear that no sin can enter into heaven, because He is perfect and cannot tolerate sin in his presence. There is no doubt that every person has a personal debt to pay for his sin, and there is no way that he can pay his own sin debt. Good works are simply not enough.

Because of sin, God knew man would need a perfect, blood sacrifice to pay his sin debt. God's son, Jesus, was the only one qualified to make that sacrifice. God's unwavering love for mankind, caused him to give Jesus to die on the cross in order to pay the sin of every woman, child and man.

When Jesus died on the cross and shed his blood for people who were lost spiritually in their sin, he paid for all of the sins of mankind: those in the past, present and future. When Jesus rose from the grave, God proved that the sin debt had been paid in full.

God did not want robots who were programmed to go to heaven. He wanted each person to have the opportunity to choose whether or not they would go to heaven or to hell. Mankind was offered Jesus' death on the cross as a gift that each individual could choose to accept or reject. If the gift is accepted, the person will go straight to heaven when he dies and will spend eternity there. If a person chooses not to accept God's gift of eternal life and decides to live his life the way he wants to, trying to do his best to reach heaven, he will not succeed and will go to hell when he dies. He will be separated from God forever and ever.

This doctrine is extremely important for every individual. The moment a person believes from his heart that Jesus paid his sin debt and that person receives Jesus as his Savior, he has eternal life. His life changes completely from the inside out without any effort on his part. The burden of sin disappears, the doubts are gone and peace, joy and contentment flood through him. He knows without a doubt that his sin has been forgiven and that his life has been made anew.
