Join The Texas Congressional Race

By Robert Roberts

The cultivation of land for planting crops and breeding of animals increased the food production capacity of early civilization. These early civilizations sprung near great rivers where fertile soil can be found. The inundation of rivers provided natural irrigation for plants. The great rivers that still exist today are home to great civilization. Coordinating this groupings need a leader which usually was selected from among the elders. In the world of today, each person has the right to choose which individual would best fit the position of a leader. Welcome to the Texas congressional race.

Humans always group together to find comfort and to do things together. The smallest unit of society is the family. Man is engaged in so many activities that sometimes it cannot be done alone. Social groupings emerged out of this necessity. And as the population grew, some type of coordination had to be made to make order out of chaos. Thus was born politics.

The villages grew into larger units or several units and became cities. The sudden growth in number of individuals demanded a way of unifying the communal actions. This gave birth to politics, a term with so many definitions and encompasses so many factors that it cannot really be described fully. But it is popular understood as the art of governance.

The tribal community began to transform as a perfect weapon to defend hearth and home. Fences were erected surrounding villages to protect it against raiders who intention was to loot villages of food and other resources. These tribal communities soon associated with each other to form larger units to counter other communities that also banded together to form bigger units.

Ancient civilization appointed kings to lead the society. Often these were the strongest and the brightest among the population. As time elapsed the position was handed over to sons or daughter when the king died. This gave rise to the right of succession which were predominantly included the direct blood relatives. Feuds erupted when others outside of relation deigned to take over the kingship. Most often than not it was the first born who had the primary right to succeed the forebear. This has resulted in bloody wars between brothers and relative and is well recorded in history.

The old civilizations were constantly at war with each other over resources and boundaries that each possessed. This was so true with the civilization of Egypt, Babylon, Assyria and Persia. Europe during the middle age was ruled by kings. As population grew more resources were needed to satisfy the demand of the people. More labor was need to till the land. This led to the subjugation of one nation by another.

One country in particular was a bread basket of new political ideas. Monarchies dominated much of the landscape during the eighteen hundreds. This system of governing became unpopular when inept contenders ascended the throne. These unpopular kings were extravagant and were unwilling to listen to the concerns of members of society and were more concerned with opulence. A revolution took place that broke the monarchists hold to power.

A new idea challenged the idea of monarchy with the birth of a new nation in the Americas. This unique form of government composed of people selected by the population through a process of election. This is the democracy as it is called today. Many systems of government can be defined as democracy. The presidential system and the parliamentary system are the most common.

The success and failure depends on who is at the helm. Leaders in a democracy are chosen by the people by a process known as election. A great many leaders have been elected that have made great strides for the nations they led. A glaring example of the effectiveness of this system is the most powerful nation on earth.
