Mechanical energy produced by motors is generated by the rotor. Also, the rotor is connected to the moving part of the rotor. This moving part of the rotor connects to the machine that is getting driven. Therefore, the electricity supply to the motor is normally applied in production of magnetic fields in both the motor and the rotor.

The initial mass produced motors used DC current. This is because the Alternating Current had not been invented yet. These types of motors were used in both high power and low power operations. This motors however lost their popularity with the advent of AC electricity.
