Kitchen Remodel Portland Oregon - What You Absolutely Need To Know

By Carl Watson

There are many issues to consider in a kitchen cabinet redo. I have come across some people who started the project without realistically quantifying the task at hand and they got burnt. Now I am sure you do not want that to happen to you now - do you? So here are some few kitchen remodel portland oregon pointers to keep in mind. Just read them all right to the end and I am sure you will find them quite helpful - basic but very useful.

It does not even have to be just when you are planning to put your home up for sale before you remodel your cookery. Merely living there, you will suddenly realize that the cookery is the one space where the most things are going on in the home. In the cookery you cook and eat, in the cookery, you keep your food items in storage, as well as your cooking utensils and equipment, and the cookery is where you do some basic waste disposal. No, I don't mean toileting; I mean the trash.

I have traditional cabinets, with decorative rope trim and crown molding on the top of the wall cabinets. But my design sense drew me to something a little unusual. My kitchen has a transitional-style backsplash-subway tiles with a coordinating stone and garnet mosaic border-and granite countertops in earth tones and black accents. I knew I was looking for a drawer pull that was a knob with a single post, rather than a handle with two posts. This choice meant I would have fewer holes to drill and fewer opportunities to make a drilling mistake.

To keep my costs down, I was looking for an in-stock drawer pull, not a special order. Standing before the wall of bins filled with knobs and handles, I realized my decision would not be difficult. Don't get me wrong-I had plenty of options. But because I considered them ahead of time, I was able to zero in on several possibilities. I wanted a drawer pull with a traditional finish, one that would blend in well with the cherry stain of my cabinets.

Once you have prepared the surface, refinish them with finely gritted sandpaper. The refinishing is most suited for plain doors because sanding decorative doors evenly is difficult. Wipe away any trace of sawdust with a clean wet rag and then apply varnish or stain. Let it dry well before reattaching them to the frames.

Another inexpensive and easy thing you can do is install new knobs on the drawers and new pulls on the doors. Once your cabinets are really clean this also achieves a new look. If you have painted cabinets, you don't have to repaint. The new hardware will give the impression of new cabinets.

Using accessories in your kitchen is wonderful way to give your cookery a new look. Think of a theme that you like. Is it bistro or cozy country kitchen style? Do you prefer streamlined modern? Change the canisters and get a matching floor mat in that theme. Think of complimentary colors and your interests.

This way, the bolt will screw in snugly and keep the drawer pull from spinning after it's been installed. Placing a piece of painter's tape over the spot where I placed the hole helped avoid splintering the finish when I drilled.
