Significance Of Aviation Warning Beacon

By Dorothy Allen

Aircraft warning illuminations are lighting devices used as a measure of avoiding collision when they are attached to tall buildings and other structures. The devices are visible to aircraft that are passing in that particular airway especially at night. However, the devices can be used during the day. The light produced is required to be sufficiently bright for it to be visualized miles away. The aviation warning beacon are used to transmit signals of obstructing objects that are in the path of flight that are low flying. FAA sets the regulations that are aimed at regulating air traffic and enhancing safety.

The sole aim of FAA guidelines is to maintain safety during the air travel. When aircrafts collide with buildings, the accident that results is fatal. Buildings that have a height that exceeds 200 feet require to be marked with continuously illuminating beacons. In addition, those that are available within or near the airport should contain a signaling device even if they are less than 200 feet tall. Illuminating strobes produces signals that alert both pilots and passengers of a tall structure on the way. This gives the pilot an opportunity to make a decision she or he will use to avoid the obstruction.

Two primary colors can appropriately serve as warning signals. Red lamps produces light of high intensity, and are programmed to go off and on in sequence for every few minutes. Some of them are always lighted both at night and during the day. Xenon discharge gadgets produce white lights. New strobes of diverse intensity and colors have been deployed to the market to cater for the high demand. Some are of blue colors, green, and amber. These unique colors are used to pass sensitive information.

The colors are used to identify different type of airport. Mostly, red lights are commonly used in towns and established urban places. They have been proven visible from far distances. In rural areas, xenon flashers are appropriate especially during the day. At times, white xenon beacons can be attached to tall buildings in urban areas. However, they are inappropriate for densely populated places since they tend to blend with the background lighting. The white color may are difficult to notice and may increase the number of accidents.

The high rate of invention of new technology as resulted in establishment of tall structures in urban and rural areas. Therefore, strobe lights are produced in large volume to meet the high demand. When choosing the best warning beacon the level of brightness and quality of material used in the modeling process should serve as a guide.

A certified and insured technician should carry out the installation process. She or he must possess a relevant training in beacon installation. Certification is a mandatory requirement. Technicians who have been in the business for decades are preferable.

Before embarking on the installation process, it is paramount to know the color specifications of a given state. Most of them recommend white and red colors. Objects that are more than 200 feet tall should be painted with colors that are visible to the pilots.

The passengers utilize the signals produced by the beacon to relief their fears. They are comfortable when the structures are visible than when they are invisible. Air travel is made safe when beacons are installed in all the tall buildings.
