Importance Of Aviation Warning Beacon

By Steven Thompson

Beacons guide the pilots on where to pass and where not to pass through. They are normally placed in very tall structures to help them perform their role. They do not only create safe environments for the pilots, but also for the structure in which such lights are put. This is because without them, a plane could easily hit a structure resulting in an accident that could cause death to many persons. Indeed, an aviation warning beacon is of many uses.

Installation and maintenance of already beacons are normally done by the owner of the structure. The aviation industry helps in ensuring that all tall structures are fitted with them and in the right manner. It also regulates the standards being installed so as to meet the international standards. Without meeting the already set standards, the intended communication is undermined.

Different colors released by beacons are intended to pass different information. Some colors are used during the day while others are used during the night. At night, red lights are used to pass the intended message. Different intensities are intended to pass different information to the pilot especially on matters concerning the tallness of structure.

During the day, those of xenon type are put into use. In addition to that, the white lights are not preferred especially in densely populated areas because of health concern and also it become hard for the pilot to differentiate them from others that may be present. The best results are obtained upon installation of both strobe lamps which are efficiently used during the day and the red types which gives out the best output during the night.

Other than the human constructions, there are other natural structures that are a threat to the aviation industry too. At times, they too cause obstruction and need to be marked for efficiency. Both red lights and strobes should be fitted in them so as to pass the right information both during the night and day time respectively. This indicates that it does not matter whether the structure is man-made or a natural one. Installation is mandatory for visibility purposes.

Always make a point of hiring a highly qualified person to perform the installation process. On the other hand, obtaining the services from an individual with limited know how may be dangerous. One may provide the services that are outdated and inefficient. On the other hand, climbing process may not be possible if one has less experience.

Owing to technology advancement, very tall structures are being put in place. Indeed, some of these very tall structures may pose a great risk to aircraft passing over them. Precautions need to be put in place so s to prohibit bad occurrences. Some owners claim that the major reasons of constructing such structures are to create enough space for the expanding population. Fitting beacons on the sides of these kinds of structures is not a walk in the park and needs the services of a highly qualified people.

It is advisable to seek relevant information before fixing them. This is because fixing the wrong lights may increase the chances of being sued by international organizations concerned with the installations. It is therefore advisable, to full fill all rules and regulations put in place to avoid being penalized.
