An NJ Summer Riding Camp Can Turn Your Shy Daughter Into A Self-Confident Young Woman

By Amanda Hill

There is something about horses and young girls. As strange as it may seem, most little girls adore horses, even those who never seen one in the flesh. If your daughter is captivated by Derby winners, and shows it by pinning their portraits on the walls of her bedroom, you need to seriously consider allowing her to participate in a NJ summer riding camp. You will be amazed at the young woman who returns.

It is not usual for young girls to struggle with self-esteem and confidence issues. Horse camps are a great way to help them in these areas. Controlling an animal that weighs half a ton or more, using only her body and encouraging words, will quickly give your youngster a feeling of her own power and make her feel more in control of the world around her. Horse camps are places where girls work together in a non-competitive way to reach their individual goals.

Some children are shy and find it difficult to make friends easily. Horse camps are places where kids come together to share a common love of these big animals. It isn't hard to find things to talk about when the girls are spending the days together learning to ride and caring for their equipment and horses.

If you're going to be around horses, you have to be careful. They are powerful animals that can be touchy and skittish. Instructors make safety their number one priority. The girls' first lessons are dedicated to the safest ways to handle horses and how to avoid common mistakes inexperienced riders make that can result in serious injury. The campers are encouraged to remind each other of these lessons.

If you have a child who tends to sit and stare at a computer screen all day, camp is a great place to remind her of all that the outdoors has to offer. At most horse camps use of electronic devices is extremely limited or banned altogether except for a phone with a camera function. Instead girls are encouraged to actively engage one another in conversation, which helps develop critical social skills.

The girls spend a lot of time each day on their horses. They get plenty of exercise and fresh air along the way. If you think the horse is going to be doing all the work, you are wrong.

Riders have to learn how to use their whole bodies to control their horses, and how to maintain their balance at the same time. They are required to shovel manure, haul water buckets, and lift hay bales, all of which are great aerobic exercises. These horses are as much their responsibility as any one they will ever own.

Riding horses is fun. It is a great for little girls who sometimes feel anxious and unsure of themselves. They can enjoy the sheer pleasure of riding a beautiful animal. Kids make fast friendships as well. Instructors are careful to make sure the campers have fun, making up games they enjoy playing while honing their equestrian skills at the same time. After a summer at camp, your daughter will be more confident and sure of herself.
