Fun Facts About Aircraft Tires

By Joseph Cooper

Sometimes, it gets somehow interesting when ironic things are combined and is merely useful as one. An example of which is an airplane and its tire, planes are known as means of transportation above air, however, it gets to use tires to be able to fly even if it is not a transportation for land. All aircraft tire suppliers are responsible in supplying the best quality tires for aircraft makers as this plays a significant role to a planes take off and landing.

The wheels are attached below the body of plane and is engineered to endure the heaviness of its loads for quite some time. There are no specific number of tires that has to be attached because it would depend on the structure of an airplane as well as its entire proportion. Additionally, the weight capacity of an aircraft is also part of the considerations on ow many wheel are supposed to get attached.

These criteria were proven necessary and essential to calculate so that an enough number of wheels would come up. It is important not to put any less and not anything more than enough. That is mainly because these things are ensuring that all scale and mass are equally distributed to all parts of planes and is responsible of balancing its entire structure on and above the ground.

Additionally, fusible plugs are in the interior of the wheel that are assembled to let the tire melt when the temperature is no longer sustained. It is a safety quality during emergencies that includes an unanticipated landings and takeoff. This prevents bursting of wheels when it overheats that are usually caused by too much friction and pressure combined.

The melting would somehow stop or prevent the wheels from exploding because of the overheating. Wheels will generally melt in a manner which is controlled and expected. It makes it much safer for the entire airplane and lessening the possible damages and casualties.

Airplane tires are inflated with pure nitrogen because it lessens contraction when being under changes of temperature and high pressure points. A tire can basically take eight hundred pounds per square inches before it all burst and explode. This though would generally depend on the component consisting the wheel.

The reason why nitrogen are recommended to inflate wheels is because it has safer component. Compared to oxygen, nitrogen are not sensitive and does not react to rubber and could sustain much heat. In addition, nitrogen is an inert gas which mean it could remove possible explosion of wheels when under huge pressure.

In addition, oxygen usually reacts when it is used on rubbers, it elevates the temperature from the inside making it hotter. Wheels should only be operating in enough pressure so it would not wear off prematurely. A tire is good for only three hundred lands before replacing them, which makes it have a life span of six months.

During takeoff and landings, even if wheels were being used on the ground, an airplane still moves like it is on the air. The tires are basically just supporting the weight of an airplane and has nothing to do with its movement. Planes are controlled through turbine engines.
